Kiwi innovation
Graham Nel spoke about how his company Disaster Prepare Ltd improves earthquake safety with innovative seismic restraints that are robust and easy to use.

QuakeFlex®
Apart from the technical challenges to develop a cutting edge technology, his business plan included a deliberate regional focus with some very specific environmental considerations:
  • Manufacture QuakeFlex® locally.  Supporting the flagging manufacturing sector to promote employment and enable a stringent quality assurance program.
  • All goods and services related to QuakeFlex® are sourced from the Wellington region to support local the economy. This significantly reduces costs and carbon emissions.
  • Collaborate with local tertiary institutions to provide research opportunities to engineering students as part of the R&D process.
